Friday 5th January
10.00 – 15.00 Trip out to Clareville Cemetery, near Carterton to visit Ellen Dougherty’s grave. Ellen was the first state registered nurse in the world and “No 1” is on her gravestone. This will be a guided visit by a local historian. There are also a number of other Dougherty and Telford graves in the cemetery
16.00 – 19.00 Drinks at the Thistle Inn Hosted by Alastair Hutchison
The Thistle Inn is one of Wellington’s oldest pubs and Daniel Dougherty’s last surviving watering hole

Keynote Presentation of Dan and Sarah`s life and quick look at the different descendant branches.
11.30 – 12.30 Presentation of the Bolton St cemetery (where Dan and Sarah are buried) by Nick Perrin from the Friends of Bolton St Cemetery
13.00 Bring your own packed lunch
14.00 Presentation of the Macaulays by our Canadian cousins
14.30 Celidh Dance workshop Anthony O’Flaherty Anne Wood and others

12.00 Picnic lunch (weather permitting) at pilot house site Terakena Bay. Please bring a packed lunch. In case of inclement weather the afternoon activities will take place in the hall. Nick Perrin will outline the detective work he carried out to identify the precise site of the pilot house

13.00 Nicholas O’Flaherty Presentation of Doughertys involvement in the world wars on pilot house site which is adjacent to the Ataturk statue
14.00 Sport activity ….. 5 over cricket tournament between family branches at St Pat’s


PLEASE NOTE : There will be an area in the hall set aside for family mementos. We encourage you to bring any interesting object that has a historical connection to your family. A timeline will also be set up and attendees can add important family events to it over the course of the weekend.
